Audience: 6-12; Synopsis: This video featuring the voices of Maine youth was produced as part of the media campaign: “If You Think Most Kids Drink–Think Again.” The “Think Again” campaign was a series of 4 television ads featuring Maine youth. The conceptual model represented by the theme “Think Most Kids Drink? Think Again!” is grounded in research that demonstrates the importance of perceived social norms in young people’s decisions about alcohol use. For a variety of reasons, including a barrage of media messages that glamorize alcohol use, young people often over perceive these norms. Their mistaken belief that “everybody else is drinking” leads to a subtle pressure to conform to a norm that doesn’t exist in reality. The fact is that most middle and high school students in Maine are not using alcohol. This expanded video incorporates additional footage with the ads to delve into some of the issues around underage drinking. The accompanying guide can be used to stimulate a discussion about underage drinking. Public domain video.

I wish I dind’t do my first beer. My brother has never done anything, yet I started drinking at 13 due to depression. He is now 17, and doesn’t show any inclination to even taste a beer. I am 22 now, and he is much smarter than I am, yet is dealing with depression. I think I have done damage by my binge in my teens.
WE should all encourage teens not to drink….They’ll make their own decision but a responsible adults we should try to encourag then to NOT DRINK! Drinking can lead them down fucked up paths….

making it illegal to teens just makes them want it more. If it were a lower age, say 16, and the government and schools actually taught kids responsibility with drinking, we wouldnt have people dying every year from binge drinking.

Get over it. It’s a personal choice. Get off your moral high ground and stop telling people what you think is best for them. Worry about your self and stop worrying about 19 year old college students drinking some beer. I drank when I was underage in college and it was the best time of my life.

I live in the UK, my parents let me have alcohol (a little while supervised) when I was about 13 so that by the time I was cut lose at 18 (are legal drinking age) I had a concept of responsible drinking and a system accustomed to handling alcohol. In my opinion its the best way. No mater what steps you take, young people will drink, the best thing to do is to teach them to drink responsibly in a controlled environment before its too late.

I thought drunkeness was an essential part of the student experience, I know it is in my college.
drinking every weekend is in a large part of europe, the standard for people aged 15-25, yet we don’t have worse alcohol problems then americans. Make it legal, make it socialy accepted to drink and even get moderatly drunk (like, sluring, staggering,…, not like comatosed) at occasions like party’s, and the “problem” is gone. Social control will curb people who overdo it and that’s it. Also, drinking DOES NOT EQUAL drinking and driving.

I do believe drinking every single weekend and not having any other way to have fun is bad. Besides, alcohol starts to get old if you drink it too much. Right now, I wish when I hang out with friends, we could do something else besides getting wasted inside someone’s house. Not that I think drinking is bad, but it gets really old and I hate having to drink at a house. I’d rather be at the bars, but I’m not 21 so I have to go drink at someone’s house.
when i turned 21, my drinking actually slowed down. i didn’t drink as much or as often. i miss being 18
there wouldnt be such a big drinking problem if alcohol was legal for everyone. The fact that its illegal for ppl under 21 is what makes it more attractive and gives it status. Ppl like to do things that they arent supposed to, thats just a fact. In china there is no drinking age so its not seen as something cool and drinking related injuries and deaths arent common there.
