Question by sportsta22: Any other teens struggling with alcoholic parents?
I’m 17 and my stepdad is a recovering alcoholic and my dad is a severe alcoholic. I don’t really have anyone to talk to about this stuff because I feel like no one understands, no one has been through what I’ve been through. I am kinda just looking for someone to talk to. Like people in AA have someone for support and that’s what I’m looking for. I went to alateen but I’m not much of a fan.. Please help.

When I was a teen my father was an alcoholic – he is now in recovery
I too am an alcoholic and drug addict in recovery
I’ve been on both ends of the stick………….
If you need someone to talk please feel free to email me…………I’m a good listener and might be able to give some guidance.
Good luck

my dad, grandpa. uncles etc are all alcoholics so i get where you are coming from. For me it helped when I started drinking too and I dont mean drinking to get drunk but just having a few with friends. I had so much anger before at alcohol and those who used it but once I learned that it doesnt have to be bad it really helped me. If you do this please be careful because (though I dont believe it) it is said that alcoholism is genetic so please only drink in moderation
dealt with 2 parents who were alcoholics and heroin addicts. my mom lost her life in the battle with drugs. and my dad has been in and out of jail living on the streets and half way homes ever since we haven’t talked since my mom passed 6 years ago. been through & seen some shit by the age of 12 most people will never experience in a lifetime. so i can relate and am willing to talk.
lastly please please please let them be an example to you for your future and learn by their mistakes! it is hard because i have been told over & over alcoholism can be genetic & can be passed down so people like us need to be especially careful.
keep your head up!
The family section is a better place for this question. They there will be apathetic to your situation and may even offer some good advise. This section pertains to alcohol’s good side and fun times. Talk to other family members and seek help from counselors at school.
