Question by Cari: binge eating disorders in children?
my niece is 7 years old and she’s always had a real problem with food. it seems to have gotten worse over the years. she has gained quite a bit of weight and is more like a 10 year old. she’ll eat dinner, have a few treats, a small snack, and then ask for more, or steal food off the other kids plates. i dont even eat nearly as much food as she does. has anyone got any idea what this might be? and, how i can help her?

Take her to see a doctor for tests. There is a rare condition called Prader Willi Syndrome that leaves the person feeling incredibly hungry all of the time, and as a result they usually need constant supervision to make sure they don’t overeat. Without help most of these individuals will grow up to become obese – so it’s important to get a diagnosis as soon as possible.
