Question by bubbles_n_ar: Can a child around meth have side effects?
One of my close friends is addicted to meth. She smokes it in the house with the child (smokes it– no cooking). Her child never has much of an appetite. I know that one of the effects of meth is no appetite. Could this be affecting her child. I’ve tried talking to her several times about this, but of course “she doesnt have a problem”.

CALL CPS.
You have an obligation to protect the child.
CALL CPS.
CALL CHILD SERVICES NOW!!!!!!
Call the cops
YES YES YES. Just like smoking a cigarette or weed there is side effects. You need to report this. I know if might be hard, but if you don’t this actually makes you an accomplice to this child’s demise. I highly suggest you get in contact with the local police dept. You can remain anonymous if you want. My husband is a cop, and this is very serious. The baby can die from this.
Ummm yeah and you should report her to child services what are you waiting for..Do the right thing for that baby.
Duh report her this instint. If u don’t it will be partly ur falt if that baby winds of sick or worse dead!
Child Protective services need to be involved immediately.Mom won’t stop without being forced to.And yes the child is at risk, from having a care giver who is high as well.
Yes it can affect the child. Children found in these conditions are commonly malnourished, improperly clothed, and neglected. Many of these children test positive for having methamphetamine in their bodies. This is due to the access they have to the drug or exposure to second-hand smoke, resulting from a cook or a user smoking in close proximity to a child. I know it’s going to be hard for you but if this woman is your friend you’ll do what she would do to her if she were sober. You’ll protect her child from her. Call your local DHS.
anonymously call child protective services. F the friendship if it comes to saving an innocent child’s life.
I would say so!! The meth is most likely affecting your friends parenting skills & the lack of appetite in the child could be this child’s way of asking for help.
If you want to be a good friend I would suggest calling child services.
Yes it can affect the child. Child Protective Services will drug test for any traces. It has the same effect on a child that it does on adults. Does the child have a bad sleep pattern? Hyperactivity? Lethargic? Please do turn this in. If you care about the child AND if you are a TRUE friend, you won’t wait.
and you haven’t called the cops because?
How charming. Call CPS immediately.
Call CPS. Kids around speed freaks are in danger from the people as well as the drug. If nothing else, they become neglected.
We’ve all heard of passive smoking right, smae goes for smoking that crap, only the effect are even worse. Meth is a horrendously strong drug and the kid will form an addiction.
Take it as your civil duty to intervene and get this situation dealt with A.S.A.P, you ar not doing something wrong but something very right.
Meth is highky addictive and incredibly dangerous
Please Report Her, that child DOES NOT need to see their mother smoking meth. The facts are that the first time you smoke meth you are hooked. She absolutely Does have a problem, and anyone that would do this if front of a child definitely has a problem Oh My God!!!!!!!!
YES, THE CHILD IS IN DANGER. THE SMOKE FROM THE METH GOES INSIDE CHILD’S SKIN AND THE CHILD BREATHES IT. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS CALL THE POLICE OR CHILD SERVICE . YOUR IS IN DANGER TO DOING THAT.
BUT CALL FOR THE KID PLEASE.
I worked for our Sheriff’s office not too long ago, and saw some of the innocent babies that got caught in the middle of meth addicted parents, and believe me, the effects are irreversible the longer the child is exposed. Here are a few sites and information I pulled up for you to have a look at. Your friend can’t break the addiction on her own, there is no humanly possible way of that happening….either get her an immediate professional intervention or at least do the poor child the justice of being taken away until she gets her act together. It’s a hard thing to do, but it’s your responsibility to the child if no one else. Good luck.
Children are particularly vulnerable to
the health effects associated with illegal
methamphetamine. They are
generally more at risk than adults to
environmental hazards because of their:
• immature organ systems, faster
metabolic rates, & weaker immune
systems;
• requirement to ingest more food,
drink more fluids & breath more air
per pound of body weight;
• lack of ability for self-protection;
• crawling, soil eating, & hand-tomouth
behaviors.
Children in adjacent apartments, & those
who live in former lab properties that
have not been adequately cleaned are
also at risk. Childhood exposure to these
toxic chemicals can result in damage to
kidneys, liver or spleen, & may lead to violent behavior.
Absorption of methamphetamine
through the skin may cause rapid heart
rate, hypertension, seizures, or solvent
intoxication. Fetal exposure to methamphetamine
is a significant problem in
the United States. At present, research
indicates that methamphetamine
abuse during pregnancy may result in
prenatal complications, increased rates
of premature delivery, & altered neonate
behavioral patterns, such as abnormal
reflexes & extreme irritability. It
has also may be linked to congenital
deformities.

http://www.drugs.indiana.edu/resources/druginfo/drugs/meth.htmlChildren are often innocent victims of the drug. Children who live with meth-using parents suffer from neglect and abuse, and their presence in the vicinity of meth production places them at risk of harmful chemical exposure, injury and even death. In Indiana from 2002 to 2004, 620 cases of children affected by meth were reported by the Indiana State Police. Hundreds of children are in foster and kinship care. The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) ranked Indiana 4th in the nation for children affected by meth. Exposure to parental/familial use increases the likelihood that children and adolescents will become users of methamphetamine.

Yes ~ Please DO NOT wait for any more answers! Call Police or Social Services NOW! You can make new friends always but more IMPORTANT you can save a innocent LIFE! Be a true friend to the child a help him/her grow up in a better environment. The mother will someday realize that this was the best thing and thank you for that…. GOOD LUCK!
the child can inhale the smoke and get addicted.
Yes, it can. If she is smoking meth, she has a problem. If she is smoking it when her child is at home then you have to call Child Protective Services. She is endangering his life. Does she manufacture meth? That is extremely dangerous. Please for the sake of this child call CPS now. She may hate you for it, but right now her child’s health and safety is more important than her feelings.
I can’t believe you haven’t reported her yet.I had friends that were doing the same thing and the reason the kid has no appetite is cause she probably doesn’t feed him so his stomach has shrunk. You are no better than her if you allow this kid to stay with a drug addict. This kid NEEDS a hero so stand up and be his hero.Cause kids only have there parents and when their parents are doing something wrong their not going to tell them to stop.
Maybe a birth defect take the child to a pediatrician or something and while your at it call child services or you will have a mini tin man.
