Question by dpaholic420: Can drug addiction be passed down to our kids?
I’m madly in love with my boyfriend. He had this addiction to drugs a while back for a few years. He has been sober for a few months now. I’m just wondering, if we get married and have kids (which we plan on), would it get passed down to our kids?
It’s been very hard for me to see what he has went through while trying to quit and during his time of addiction. I really don’t want my kids going through what he did.
Please help me!! Thanks =)

well i do not think so
A drug addiction counselor is the one you need to pose this question to.
No!
As said earlier only if this behaiour is displayed infront of the child/ren. Most Addicts are not addicts because of the drug, its mostly because they had an addictive personality!
Yes. The drugs most likely affected the sperm and there are real possibilities that things may not turn out right. Even the possibility of a child with developmental problems or birth defects. Both parents carry genes that make that child. Either parent can have a problem that would be a contributing factor. Think of it this way, if a father can pass on the trait for drinking, they can pass on the trait for drug use.
The drug addiction can be passed down if the kids see or are around the drug abuse, but it’s ultimately how they react to it.
Through your genes? No. But if you ever get married and have children, make sure he is sober for a long time, and that drugs isn’t even mentioned it is so out of your lives. Make sure that he has no access to drugs whatsoever. Otherwise, then your kids could get an addiction too because of bad example.
Just like parents who smoke, their children are more likely to smoke (I am a smoker and so is my mum). Children’s developments depend on genetic and environmental factors, so if you were to take drugs while they were present then they would for definite be into drugs in some way in the future. Even if they were brought up in a good environment and never heard of drugs then there could be a chance of them taking more risks than the average person.
