Question by C. Mckay: Did you binge drink when you were pregnant? (perhaps before you knew)?
Many women unintentionally drink before they know they are pregnant. I am carrying out a pilot study to determine whether a larger study would be viable, into the effects of early prenatal binge drinking (during pregnancy) on post natal outcomes, in the abscence of a regular drinking habit.
These questions are non offensive and purely clinical. It is recognised that the majority of children are fine from minimal alcohol exposure, but that in a minority of cases the outcomes are less favourable.
Please could you answer a few questions? Or send me an email. Anonymity is perfectly fine so please be honest.
You don’t have to answer all the questions, you can write a small paragraph if you want, but please be precise in the details! Any information you can disclose would be useful. Thank you!

With my first I didn’t know I was pregnant in the early days, I found out I was pregnant at 8 weeks and had been having 1/2 to a bottle of wine almost every night or spirits and alco-pops at our local pub.
I didn’t smoke, but I sat in a smokey pub right up to this point to do my drinking, and it was a village pub, rather like someones front room.
My son is perfect physically, but is very loud and does not concentrate well, if I am honest, I have always wondered if this is a contributing factor. He is doing well at school, and is 6 this year, but, he is poor at writing and will spend hours drawing, but is loathed to practice reading or writing with me.
One of my best friends talks about how she got totally wasted on the New Year’s Eve right before she found out she was pregnant.
Her daughter is now 22, was Phi Beta Kappa in college and is currently in a PhD program for pyschology. I don’t think that one episode did much damage, but she was smart enough to not drink again once she found out she was pregnant.
I drank once when I was pregnant (I did not know I was pregnant). I had quite a bit of vodka and was really sick.
I was about 4 weeks pregnant, still in my first trimester.
I did not do drugs.
I did smoke until I found out I was pregnant and then I quit.
Right now my son is 10.
He has behavioral traits (hyperactivity, etc.) but these are due to him having slight tourette’s syndrome genetically passed down (his father has tourette’s also). Academically my child is gifted. This spring they would like to test his IQ and place him in the gifted program through his school. He always has straight A’s without trying.
He excels in reading, math problem solving, puzzles and word games.
He excels at playing drums and is great with the guitar but he doesn’t care for the guitar as much.
My child was right on target developmentally (crawling, walking, etc.) His first word was Hi at four months and he kept talking from there. He was always excelled in learning and any thought process from very little on.
My son expresses the want to attend College (which we will encourage)
He has no physical defects.
I hope this helps! Any other q’s let me know!
