Question by Gringodays: Do minors have patient confidentiality with psychiatrists?
in Maryland.
Say an adolescent (around 17) tells their psychiatrist they use LSD, Ecstasy, Marijuana, etc. Would the psychiatrist tell the child’s parents?

I’ll tell your parents so your psycho doctor does not have to. Drugs are really a problem for you.

Yes yes and yes just like if they see a medical doctor they dont have to tell the parent if the child wants them out of the room in certtain situations. Psychiatrists are doctors too and it is part of the oaths they take.
they can only break confidentiality if you are breaking the law, causing harm to yourself, or threatening to cause harm to someone else.
since those drugs are illegal, yes they can break confidentiality and tell the appropriate authority (ie including your parents)
wow this sounds just like my situation a couple years ago. Anyways, the doctor has every right to tell your parents, until you turn 18. So I’d wait a bit if I were you.
