Question by mgilman53: Does the use or manufacture of meth produce a musty smell?
Two small children I know smell very musty sometimes, it is very strong ! It could be the clothes are smelly from leaving in washer, or wet ,and left in basket or on basement floor. I thought I read that meth could have something to do with the smell, and the poor kids, especially the youngest have terrible coughs! If anyone knows about this smell, and its cause I would appreciate any info. they can give me! Thanks!

I would imagine, but I don’t know. If you suspect anything weird with their parents/gaurdians, let child protective services know immediately.

A musty smell is most likely mold or mildew. A meth lab will create chemical odors that are more like a solvent (ie lacquer thinner).

type or highlight and drag that website into your browser and read it thorougly
its lengthy but its not a site you can copy and paste down in the middle section it says that IT CREATES A MUSTY SMELL when the chemicals are combined and sit for a while…..
its very toxic and may be too late for the children. you can take an article of their clothing and have it tested too.
a meth lab would smell like ammonia or cat pee
musty is usually mold or mildew.
kids probably need a bath
If you have to ask this question then you have the answer. Report them and help them. They can’t do it someone has to do it for them so do it.
Sounds like mold, which can also cause respiratory problems.
meth has a chemical smell, sort of like ammonia or cat pee. I have never heard of it smelling musty. My guess is that those kids live in the basement or have like you said left their clothes in the washer and didn’t dry them thoroughly. I would wash their clothes and give them a bath. Mold can cause all kinds of respiratory problems. Ask the parents to take them to the doctor, they probably need medicine for their health problems due to the mold. Or maybe you should call child protective services anonymously so that the parents will get the help they need.
