A jewelry box can be a hiding place. Do you know enough to talk to your kids about drugs?

Thank you for your comments. I hope they help others to form their personal opinions of addiction and its treatment. Science is leading us closer and closer to understanding the underlying elements of addiction. We hope we can provide resources to those in need of help. Addiction needs understanding and support – and we all owe it to our friends and family to read and learn more about how to help those in need.
You are correct – by stopping the abuse of a substance(s), the negative impact of that substance(s) will cease. Addiction and its behavior patterns do not disappear and the battle against addiction requires support and care.
You are certainly welcome. Understand that ~95% of “treament” centers promote the 12 step religion. Their cure is declaring yourself insane and powerless, declaring lifetime membership and religious conversion. This is a huge problem: AA has, I’m afraid, permanently retarded the field of “addiction medicine”. Science – great idea – start w/ scientific studies of AA – real double blind stuff w/ controls…
Sure, I suppose a negative behavior pattern once ceased is never truly cured. “Cured” is not the appropriate word however, because it’s not a disease to start with. A person can choose to permanently cease a certain bad behavior (with good psych help prn) – rather than identify themselves with a fictional disease. Lifetime membership in a 12-step cult unecessary.
Yeah ok. Luckily you can stop abusing drugs and the “disease” magically” disappears…. now go tell someone with cancer which behavior to cease – wherein they will be cured.
What’s the song in the box?
This seems a little paranoid.
