Question by russler_da_hussler: How do i stop alcoholism in my life?
I am probly the worst alcoholic you will ever talk to and need help with it because i have a loving family that worry about me and children that look up to me.

If you want the help its out there all you have to do is look in the phone book…
Your the only one that can do it, we cant do it for you…

If you cant help yourself then go to a threpist….If you cant afford it , the Find a communtiy therapist then after that you will never be aloowed to drink again. you have a lot to loose and alot to gain the choice is yours
Firstly, kudos on acknowledging that there is a problem. I would recommend therapy with an addictions specialist, AA (or Smart Recovery if you want a less spiritual feel), and/or rehab if needed.

I think our surroundings and the people we put purselves around have a lot to do with this. I am 23 and i used to never drink hardley ever. But now I drink at least 2 or 3 times a week-and get pretty buzzed or drunk. Usually I am just bored and have nothing else to do. My licence is supended now-Not due to drinking though.So I stay at home a lot.But anyways-My girlfriend likes to drink too,and her friends and most of mine do too. It’s kinda hard to be around all your friends,while they are having a couple beers and not want to drink.I just know that when I am around it makes me want it. I know it’s hard,even when u have a loving family.Everyone is diffrent though. What works for one may not work for the other. Think about what makes u want to drink. If it’s out of bordem-then maybe you could just go do something with your family.Truthfully the only one that can really help-is you. Are you ready? I wish u the best of luck and I know you can do it!
You have to find peace within yourself. Spend quiet time alone. If you can go to sleep on night with out a drink, and start to feel a calmness in other ways, you will see how much this drink is stealing from your life. Good Luck and be well.

Well, first of all you should Call an A.A hot line in your area! If you think that your drinking is that bad, then you might want to think about checking your self into the hospital for a while, as you will probably experience D.T’s (delerium tremors) You should really get the withdrawl symptoms under control first. You can get in touch with Alcoholics Anonymous while you are there! ask them for a meetings schedule for your area, and they will tell you EXACTLY where to go! I know it will be tough, but just hang in there, and don’t give up! You need to start going to meetings, It will change your life( for the better) and it will also save your life! If you are worried don’t be, This is from the Twenty-four hour a day book(which you will learn about) it is NOT a bible, it is a book this a different reading for every day of the year! This is today’s reading :SEPT-4th A.A THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: “We must be careful never to show intolerance or hatred of drinking as an institution. Experience shows that such an attitude is not helpful to anyone. We are not fanatics or intolerant of people who can drink normally. Prospects are relieved when they find we are not witch burners. Temperate drinking is okay, but we alcoholics cant get away with it. And no alcoholic likes to be told about alcohol by anyone who hates it. We shall be of little use if our attitude is one of bitterness or hostility.” Do I have a tolerance for those who can drink normally?
MEDITATION FOR THE DAY: Do not become encumbered by petty annoyances. Never respond to emotional upsets by emotional upset. Try to keep calm in all circumstances. Try not to fight back. Call on the grace of god to calm you when you feel like retaliating. Look to god for the inner strength to drop those resentments that drag you down. If you are burdened by annoyances, you will lose your inward peace and spirit of god will be shut out. Try to keep peacful within.
PRAYER FOR THE DAY: I pray that I may do the things that make for peace. I pray that I may have a mission of conciliation.>

It’s going to be tough, especially at first. You should start by banning any form of alcohol from your house. And keep going to those meetings. Kudos and good luck to you.

You have a big plus, a supportive spouse is the best factor in quitting an addiction according to a Harvard study.
Talk to a pro on a regular basis about the problems that alcohol has caused in you and around you, and how to change them.
You will fulfill your destiny if you follow destiny’s path.
Some people believe alcoholism is a medical disease, others believe it can be controlled. Whatever is believed, counselling is the only thing that will help you. The 12 step programme has proven to be the best.
I dont know whether you have been in Rehab before, but I suggest it is the way to go….Your family will miss you for sure, but unless you do something serious about this problem then you probably will end up losing them in the long run.
I believe the Salvation Army have the best resources for alcohol problems. And have the best rate of success with their rehab programs. To get the best results, you need a long term rehabilitation program, but if you arent prepared to go to Rehab, then there are lots of other ways you can be helped….just by attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings would be a start.
Youve already made the start by caring about the well-being of your wife and children, now all you have to do is put that concern into action. Its a very hard thing for anyone to admit they have an addiction….I applaud you for wanting to do something about it.
You need determination and courage to overcome any kind of addiction, but most of all you need support. Give the Salvos a ring, they will have all the resources you will need.
Just one more thing, dont give up cold turkey without a medical professional around. People have died from the affects of quitting like that. Your body goes into shock and can shut down.
