Question by Missy: Is 20 too young to be an alcoholic?
I’ve had a hard life that is not an excuse for me to drink 10/15 drinks on a night out 2/3.
My dad was an alcoholic, Its no excuse for me to become one too.
I’ve not had a gap of abstinance from alcohol for more than four days in the last two years, is the lack of will power early indication of impending dependance?
All the social situations I attend, or choose to attend have involved alcohol.
I hate getting sick from drinking too much, I hate having hangovers, I just generally hate the fact that I’m planning my next night out.
Even my friends, family have confronted me about my drinking! but I really cannot see how its making my life bad despite all the things i’ve written above.
I’m never late for work, I’m never drunk at work… Always given new responsibilities, never fail to impress.
This functional lark is slowly ebbing away at my sanity.
Advice please.
2/3 times a week
The drinking laws in my country are 18.
I live in England

It depends. It’s your life. What do you think?
depends on the state some states like mine the drinking laws is 21 but 2 to 3 times a week is not bad as long as you dont become a binge drinker a binge drinker is a person who drinks a lot in a short period of time advently alchole does effect your body if you drink to much all at once as long as you drink in a moderate period you should be ok
Any age is the wrong age to be an alcoholic.
Being an alcoholic has no age – it’s always bad. Although, if a child drinks, then the consequences are worse. However, the result of drinking is always that the brain cells are destroyed. And those brain cells are the only cells that do not “grow” again.
The fact that you talk about your problem, is a good start to stop. Join some group, go to doctor’s and get some help. It’s not too late. Maybe now you aren’t late for work and you’re doing well, but it’s just temporary. The temptation of alcohol is big.
Stop before you ruin your life
Only you can make your self stop no one else.
It is possible to be a functional alcoholic..
have you considered trying to attend the same parties, but drinking something without alcohol instead? its even possible to keep up appearances: drink something that looks as if it could have been mixed with vodka, refuse to share and act as though you are drunk, your friends will never know the difference and you wont have the same hangovers.
just a suggestion, I don’t think I would be able to pull it off myself, but it might be worth a try.
It is possible to be an alcoholic at any age. I think you should talk to your family and explain that you hate this part of your life but you can’t stop on your own. You should probably see about joining a support group, or a rehab for alcohol. You need the help of a profesional while you are still young and have the rest of your life ahead of you. Don’t wake up 10 years from now and be homeless with no job, no spouse or kids. All alone with your drinking. And then you wind up getting sick from all the alcohol over the years, and wind up being remembered as the drunk. Please seek help from wherever you can get it. My grandpa died from alcohol in a roach infested apartment in the bad part of town, because he couldn’t stop drinking all the time. He never knew his kids or grandkids. I don’t think he even knew he had grandkids. The last time my mom saw him she was 3 years old. I am now 30. Don’t turn out like this. Its sad.
here is how i am going to say this… all you guys saying they are to young or it is bad well u might as well just stop talking… i drink every night and i dont have anything wrong with me and i am not much older than she is… it is possible to function the next day so i dont see what is wrong with it… my uncle has been a heavy drinker since 1985 and he lives a perfect life and is in good health… what i am trying to say is if you think u are alcohalic then u are but u can also consider your self a heavy drinker!!!
no my dad was 15 that’s y i have bruises everywhere
