I have to admit its a really good idea. I don’t drink if I go out, its too risky to being caught and too risky to others. I don’t drink if I am at a club, only mineral water. Cover charges probably are high in Japan, since less people are going to be drinking. Either way the liquor industry will profit, because people are not going to stop drinking. They’ll just party at home more.
0 limit is a little silly, than again if someone never drank before in their life, I guess 1 beer would be enough to mess with their driving. Do you know what the full penalty is for DUI? besides 10,000 fine.

If they did that here in Europe i am pretty sure the number of people willing to be “the dessignated driver” would increase exponentially.
So if you’re planning on drinking ANYWHERE in Japan, you have to plan and get a designated driver first to come with you?? o.O

but the chances of getting caught drinking and driving in Japan are much lower…..
The chances of getting caught breaking any traffic law are just lower…
In my opinion anyway.
Often Japanese have some great ideas, but they tend to be negated by serious oversights…
Like closing the trains too early and forcing people to choose to drive…
5☆ , its a great idea to encourage safe ddriving, it’d be better tho (in my humble opinion) if they didnt shove it on your face so much, I mean, big freaking sign on the jug and coaster, maybe something more subtle like a different color coaster would do, I dunno
@RelVleDy There’s aren’t really any restrictions on where you get drunk. As long as you aren’t belligerent. Sometimes you can even buy beer from the vending machines. Also, no one really drives in Japan. My host mother was the only person in her family with a license, and she only drove a couple times a week. Most Japanese just use the trains or bikes to get around.

That’s cool that they give you a pitcher of tea. Over here in the U.S. at the bars if you’re the DD they’ll usually give you free soda or water.
This is the only right way to handle this issue! I’m glad that they’ve established the zero alcohol limit here in Germany as well (in 2007). You don’t get free tea here but at least it is a very positive change. Any other way to treat this problem (e.g. 0.5 promille limit) is just false-faced behaviour, I think.

Oh, zero limit on driving? I thought I read somewhere that people could get drunk anywhere in Japan. So you mean there’s no restrictions outside of cars but inside of cars the restrictions are very strict?
research shows that even a small amount of alcohol can have a lot of effects on driving,,. so if you want yourslf and the others to be safe, don’t drink while driving

Zero limit is my country as well, but de facto, the police almost never charge people who have less than 0,3. They don’t give you free tea anywhere, though
