Teen speaks about the dangers of drug addiction, how she became involved in consuming and selling drugs, and her path to recovery. Did you know that most teens don’t use drugs? In fact, NIDAs latest survey that measures drug use and attitudes about drug use among high school teens shows a long-term decline in cigarette smoking, alcohol, marijuana and some other drugs. However, we are seeing a high rate of prescription drug abuse among teens. Last year, nearly one in ten high school seniors reported nonmedical use of Vicodin and one in twenty reported abusing Oxycontin, both potentially addictive opioid painkillers. Just because its prescribed by a doctor doesnt mean its not dangerous, and people should only use these drugs the way the doctor recommends. The biggest problem of drug use with teens is that there is no way to know who will become addicted. If you take the risk and try drugs, your life could become very complicated. Question by true_sagg: is it better for the kids to be raised by their alcoholic dad?
is it better to have kids raised by their mother and alcoholic father or is it better for the father to be outside of the home and raise them from “afar”. THis is for 2 boys.
details are he only has a job cuz child support for his other 2 kids threaten him with jail and he provides no financial support at all for my 2. About once a week my 3yr and 6month old get to experience one of his drunken tirads. He drinks before and after work. Has his 3rd DUI so he can’t drive our kids anywhere..lives with his mother rent free. Guilt-trips everyone and everything is everyone elses fault. The typical alcoholic.

Well it really depends on the family. If the only the dad needs help, the second option would be best, but if the mother/father are in therapy, it might be okay for the two to raise the kids together.

Question by Harry Beiber, Marriage Psychic: How can I replace my sex addiction with just a plain, ordinary porn or alcohol addiction?
I really have no vices, except, after my wife had an affair a few years ago, I decided to do the same, except I can’t stop. These women feed my ego by telling me how good-looking, “big” and good in bed I am, and they are better than my wife in practically every way except I wouldn’t want anyone else to be the mother of my kids, 12 and 9.

Anyway, I want to trade in this sex addiction for some other, more accepted addiction. Suggestions?

Ahhh… the young actor. This PSA was Produced by Ron Steelman at WBNS-TV, in Columbus, Ohio. It was shown throughout Ohio for a couple of years. Steelman just found it and sent it to me. What a kick. I was younger than most of my kids when I filmed this.

Question by ilm03: Should I get her in my life?
I was dating this girl while her ex was living with her. They’ve been childhood friends and she took him in when no one else did. Well, as we spent more time together, her ex would call her up just to find out what she was doing. It wasn’t enough that she was his meal ticket. Well things got more unbearable when we were officially together. He was constantly calling and sending letters while he was at alcohol rehab, even proposing to marry her. The last straw was the day before her birthday when she was planning to go out with him instead me, her boyfriend. He was already out of rehab by then. She was even contemplating marrying him. That was my cue to leave her apartment and tell her not to call me. Needless to say, I didn’t want to be with her and worry about his constant presence and or phone calls. We’re now friends, but I’m still not over her. The thing is that I want her to be with me. I just think that I over reacted.

Question by tylertxanreborn: If we have to address Christine O’donnell as the witch?
because of things she said she did as a teenager–should we address her opponent as a bearded marxist (he said that as a twenty something i college) led by the cocaine snorting Barrack Obama (he said he did coke as a youth). If the mud can fly both ways I’m okay with it.

Question by slackernerd: How do you deal with an end-stage alcoholic who’s neglecting kids?
How do you deal with a relative who is an end-stage alcoholic and you’re concerned about her kids(because the older ones call me and other relatives frequently needing to be “rescued” when she’s too wasted to notice whether they’re there while binging for days at a time or acting belligerent, regularly drives drunk with them in the car or has the 14 year old drive, is incapable of maintaining any kind of employment, house stinks of cat urine and dirty baby diapers, baby seems to have unusually excessive diaper rashes, etc.? I thought about contacting CPS but they go there all the time anyway and never do anything, so I figure there’s no point. Also the older one has a bunch of issues issues and resents the drinking but also loves his mom and likes that he can get away with murder, so I suspect he would be uncooperative.
Well, before any of us can take them in, we should first track down their dads and give them first dibs if they’re interested and functional…. While I do wish they both were more involved, at least one of the 2 dads(4 kids total, 2 kids each dad) is paying child support and has them visit him in his state during the summer so he must care at least somewhat and probably doesn’t know what’s going on and should know where it’s going… I’m tracking down his info and giving him a call, even if my relative will say I’m “betraying” her … Well, I wouldn’t betray her if she didn’t betray her kids….

have an intervention. go to an AA meeting and find some resources on dealing with this.
continue to contact cps. find a social worker to help you.
find a way to convince her to do the right thing i.e. sobering up, become better involved with the kids, know when to hand them over to a more responsible adult, etc.
talk to a lawyer about becoming the legal guardian of the children. that way you have the rights to them, and they still “have their mom.”

good luck, you’re gonna need it.

Question by None: Why is it that so many women who get off of drugs or alcohol get their children back? ?
It’s great to hear that a woman ends up getting their children back after she’s no longer on drugs or alcohol. The best thing children could have are their mother or father. My question is what do you have to regain custody of your children once you get your life together. I am not on drugs or alcohol, but I see so many woman who are not any addiction lose their children because of abuse (by the husband) or depression. Why is that so? And what can she do to regain custody? Everyone goes through some ups and downs in life.

Complete video at: fora.tv Kevin Bales, author of the Slave Next Door, recalls a life-changing epiphany that occurred over a meal of “jumping shrimp” with a young Thai sex worker. “She opened up a window on horror and terror and torture and serial rape that, I have to say, changed my heart.” —– Bales discusses the definition of slavery, how the population explosion has transformed slavery in the modern age, and how changing the patterns of global demand can effectively increase the value of human beings. Bales’ momentum: “We can end slavery, the laws are in place, the economics work, there is no debate — everyone agrees it should end. All it takes is a good hard shove and it goes over the brink of its own extinction. Imagine being able to give our kids a world without slavery.” – Momentum Conference Going undercover to meet slaves and slaveholders, Kevin Bales exposed how modern slavery penetrates the global economy and flows into the things we buy. Named by Utne Reader as a “visionary who is changing your world;” and the originator of one of “100 World-Changing Discoveries” by the Association of British Universities, he is a leading abolitionist in the anti-slavery movement. In 2001 he founded Free the Slaves, the American sister organization of the UKs Anti-Slavery International, the worlds oldest human rights group. In eight years it has helped to liberate thousands of slaves in India, Nepal, Haiti, Ghana, Brazil, Ivory Coast, and Bangladesh, and worked with them
