Question by I don’t know anything: Am I an alcoholic or just young and stupid?
I’m underage and don’t drink a lot because I don’t have any alcohol connections, but whenever there’s alcohol around to drink (not mine), I can’t control myself and drink it and always get totally wasted. Like, I’ll start to get a buzz off a few beers or a few shots, then I’ll tell myself “Hey, why not another?” and then I’ll take 2 more… and then I start to feel pretty drunk & I’ll say “ah, f*ck it, your already drunk, lets just get smashed!”.
Is that normal? I fear that when I turn 21 I’ll start buying booze all the time & won’t be able to control myself. My mom gets angry when I drink her vodka, but it’s like… I can’t Not drink it, IDK…
BTW, I’m just about to turn 20, so this may be a problem for me soon & I’d rather figure out what to do about it before it gets out of hand.
Ah man,, but it’s hard to avoid it whenever it’s right in front of me. I’m the same way with chocolate chip cookies; if I see them, I have to eat them, even if I don’t want to eat them. I f*ckin’ tell people to keep that sh*t away from me, but it’s like they purposefully like tempting & torturing me..

First off, I admire you for planning for a possible problem. Anyway:
Everything you’ve just mentioned sounds like booze reasoning. So in answer to your original question, you’re just young and stupid. It’s a test of wills for you every time booze shows up, and you always lose. The trick is to leave before the booze even gets there. Never be in the same area as alcohol. As for your mom, of course she’ll mad if her underage son breaks the law and steals her alcohol.
*You said that you “can’t control” yourself. Please. Of course you can. But you won’t if you’re drunk, because then your willpower goes down the toilet. If you don’t preemptively avoid alcohol, then you’re done for.
Hope I’ve helped.

Yes stop drinking now and if you can’t then get help, alcohol will ruin your life, it does so much damage to your body. Don’t wait until your older to quit cause in the mean time you will probably, father a child, hate your wife or girlfriend have no career, be sick with liver or pancreas disease, you will end up a loser!! Everytime you make a decision its effects the rest of your life, if you do the right thing then your life will be right!! good luck :0)
Drink alcohol is a choice. If you feel it is getting out of hand you need to ask your why are you drinking? Are you board? Do you drink because your friends drink? You do not have a disease that is making you drink. My brother went to a program called the St. Jude Retreats and they helped him address why he was abusing alcohol and helped him overcome that behavior pattern my helping him address why he was drinking in the first place. This was 3 years ago when he was 19. I am happy to say that he has been sober since. On his 21 birthday he even went to a bar but did not drink because he was having fun sober. If you think your drinking is getting out of hand and want to stop before it leads to legal trouble you may want to look into the St. Jude Retreats. There phone number is 888.424.2626.
I wish you all the best.
