Question by chicken2008: Can you apply for public assistance if you are on short term disability from your job?
I can currently using the rest of my sick days at work. I am off work because I am in rehab for alcoholism. I did in patient then went to outpatient then relapsed in just four weeks now I am going back to 3 weeks of inpatient. My sick days and few vacation days will end at the end of August. I was just thinking about applying for welfare benefits just food stamps and cash I have two kids. I am allowed up to 4 months of unpaid short term disability.

You can apply for both, but it surely won’t be enough to pay the bills. If you have a husband/boyfriend who works, you may not be eligible because of his income.

Please try harder this time in rehab. This has got to be hard on your kids. Your love for them should fuel you. Whenever you think about drinking again, think of your kids missing you while you’re in rehab and the fact that you are probably not a very reliable parent when your on the bottle.
