Question by CheaKat: How do Alcoholic parents affect the social,emotional, and intellectual development of their children?
Working on a graduation project, already found some information just looking from a personal experience POV. thanks:)
Working on a Graduation Project and this is my topic, wanted to know your opinions. I’ve also had to deal with an alcoholic parent myself. just wanted to see if other people took things differently. thank you!

it effects them in many levels example my brother cant read or write, because our mom couldnt teach us. i am very sesitive and easily have panic attacts as well as i tend to get into relationships with alcholics because that is what i am use to.

Go to a COA (children of alcoholics) or AA meeting and see first hand. YA is not a very good forum for such an emotional topic.

It’s also genetic. If a parent is an alcholic, then there’s a 50% chance the child will be too. And that doesn’t just include alchol. It could be any addiction. It’s the additive gene. Alcoholism is such a bad thing. And most people who are don’t belive they are. Children are severely affected. They develop social anexieties and emotional detatchments.
well for starter your around your parents and friends who are alcoholic.. they fight a lot so you go to bed crying… sometimes the men like to play not so nice games with the girls.. that lead to 2 thing girls that sleep around or those that don’t like intimacy..your more likely to drink to drink your self.. and yes you more likely to end up with a partner that drinks heavily as well…a lot of children quit school.. your parents spend all their money in liquor so you go to school in old hand me down ill fitting clothes and get made fun of.. your more like will be a runaway and get into trouble
well my mom was a alcoholic, but I grew up with my father mom since I was 2 months old, I new of my mother I seen her every time I visit reletives in the same city she was in. Sometimes she would be so drunk my cousin around my age (teens) the would make fun of her and make jokes to me about her and that was very painful for me but, I was raise better than that from my grandma. My brother is now three years younger than me he grew up in the house with our mom and been in and out of jail, prison every since he was around 14. He grew up on his own basically she wasn’t there for him at all, when he was born my grandma offered to take him too even though my dad wasn’t his dad and my mother said she could take care of him but, she didn’t. My mom died in 1990 of collaspe lung, liver disease, she was 43 the same age I am now. I don’t drink, I have on occasions, but it’s not my thing and I don’t like to be around people who can’t handle there liquior. So alcholic parents has a big affect on their children the one’s (children) who can’t handle it.
