Question by enzyme304: Is meth a problem where you live? It is a scourge in Oregon. It scares me that my kids may be someday exposed?
to others who use it. As a teacher I know of students whose parent or parents use it or make it or both. Their lives are in constant turmoil. They move frequently and they are not always well taken care of.

meth is rapidly spreading……..but hopefully there will be more done about it….i’m living in the number one state for it. it’s awful. sometimes it scares me b/c you can actually tell who’s doing meth…….it’s freaky and they look so weird. it’s horrible now.
Its everywhere, after high school my Friend moved to the Del’s got in to it pretty heavy. After about the third year never heard from him again. To bad for him because he had the IQ of a genius. I guess he wasn’t that smart after all.
The best deterrent to any kind of substance abuse is education. Show your kids some of the HBO America Undercover documentaries about people who use drugs. Take them to a clinic so they can see/hear/smell what true drug abuse does to the human body. Once they get an unflinching eye-opener, they will never even think of using drugs.
This is terrible. No one should grow up in such an environment. It makes think maybe we should take a look at legalizing drugs. At least we could get rid of the criminal types and undesirables. Meth would never have caught on were it not for the huge profits involved in finding something new. I am really sorry that this is what we have come to be.
I don’t see much of it around any more because I moved into Farm Country, but in the cities it was always getting worse. It’s too easy to make and the chemicals are not properly tracked.
it’s becoming one here in Las Vegas.
When I was in school in Texas, at Shepard Air Force Base, the school showed the students graphic films about drug users. It showed them using it, them being high, them buying them, the suffering etc. It made me sick to my stomach. Guess what? I’ll be 45 next month and haven’t used any yet. Of course I was around people who used them. To this day I’m still surprised by people who use them from all walks of life too. I couldn’t find any films to show my kid, but I let him know, early. Me and his Father, who grew up in hard-time Chicago, showed him a seedy part of town and the crack-heads looking like zombies. We didn’t let it seem glamorous like the singers and celebrities do, we let him know how stupid they were and how to find other outlets for shyness, anger, social ineptness, peer pressure, dependency issues etc, all the reasons people use them. He’s twenty, going to UNLV and hopefully drug free. We raised him with firm love and a little fear. He’s a black male and this is what we felt we had to do. good luck to you.
Meth is taking the world by storm. It is practically everywhere. As far as your children go I recommend this: Keep talking to them. Don’t be stupid about it! Share your own experiences with them and give them room to talk if they want it. Let them ask you questions. I don’t know if that’s what worked on me but, it helped. The other thing that mostly convinced me to stay away was exposure. Those classes at school don’t work. When you see your dumba$$ uncle doin’ it and then screwing his life up it tends to keep you away. Basically minor exposure to the results of meth(or any other drug for that matter)
If you are a teacher in the United States of America you are required by law to report such activity. It is now considered child abuse and if you don’t report it, and they find out you knew, you can lose your job and go to jail! Be smart. What would you want to have happen if you were the kid. Plus(I’m assuming the kid somehow told you) the kid letting you know is probably an out-cry for help. I suggest you help him/her. You now have an archived electronic paper trail
I live in CO, and I used to live in an apartment complex that got raided by the SWAT because there was a meth lab there. I was so paranoid to drink the tap water because they used the pipes to make the meth.
The best thing to do is show the kids the drug users before and after photo. They look like skeletons with no teeth and losing their hair after doing meth. Whatever you do, just be honest and do research on the drug before you tell them about it.
Unfortunately, the war on drugs is still very problematic.
I live in australia and have seen meth and psuedoephidrin smother the streets and the youth of today. as a former user I know the turmoil you speak of. The biggest problem is that it’s considered as less insidious than cocaine and heroin. This is not the case. The psychological damage been done to our youth today will haunt us all in future years. Education seems to be the only tool to dissuade people from using.
we have a problen here in australia too. It is so cheap and easliy available. I used to be a drug user a few years ago and at the time i was very addicted. there was no better feeling than a drug high, at least thats what i used to think. I look at it now and i have 3 years of my life that i can never get back. not to mention the countless friends that i lost. I am still troubled by the loss of friends to this day. I want nothing more than to make amends and apologise to those people for what i did. but my behaviour was so bad that alot of these people will not even allow me to apologise to them. I didnt think i had a problem. in 12 months I spent $12000 of my savings plus about 1/3 of my $35000 wage. I am glad i woke up when i did and got out of that lifestyle or there is a good chance that i would have just not woken up one day.
I suggest that you educate your children about drugs. talk with them about it. dont threaten them with violence or anything like that if they do try drugs. this is proven to make it more likely that they will try them. make them aware of the dangers of unknown chemicals. also educate them about the effects of the “come down” the depression that is endured when coming off the high from the drugs. this is worse than death itself. as many a drug user will tell you, the only way to combat this is to usually take other drugs. take them to a clinic if you can and get them to see first hand what happens. See if you can get them to talk to ex drug users, current users who are undergoing rehab. this is by far the best method in outlining the down side.
I hope that you as a parent do not ever have to endure a child on drugs.

It seems like everyone in Los Angeles is doing it except me. I have seen firsthand how people do this drug and eventually lose their mind and life. Just two days ago a guys heart was beating so fast his heart tore and he died instantly. It happens all the time. The human heart is not suppose to beat that fast. Once a person does this drug, there is almost no turning back. The solution is to never ever do it no matter what. I heard it’s all over America now, even in Hawaii and Alaska and Canada.
(GREAT QUESTION!)
Meth (methamphetamine) is the worst drug. Thanks God e don’t have here in Egypt.
They recently discovered a meth lab operating across the street from the local hospital. The discovery was right around election time, makes good front page press. It seems to be a major problem in Pennsylvania.
