That would depend on many things. Being an alcoholic certainly will not increase his life span, nor will it bring him happiness nr will drinking solve his problems. It will only add to them. Hopefully your friend will get help. Perhaps an (family or friends) intervention is called for. Addiction is very serious, and chronic users of any drug will have problems. If he won’t listen to others, he will have to find his way on his own. It is good of you to be concerned for him. I wish you well, and I wish him well.
My dad was an alcoholic. He lived to be 98. My mom never drank. She died at 77. My alcoholic brother would still be alive if he hadn’t fallen from a tree at the age of 68!!
He may not die young but his life will be a living hell if he doesn’t give it up .
