Question by Hedgehog_hedgehog: Rave scene – just an excuse to take drugs?
Do you think that the concept of the rave scene is just an excuse for people who need to feel part of something to take drugs?
How any people, as a percentage, do you think can go to a rave and enjoy it for just the music and the dressing up, versus the drugs?
Hi, thanks for that . . . my guess was about 75% users to 25% non-users, but you’re right, must depend on the place.
Do non-users and users tend to have strong feelings about each other or is everyone fairly neutral?

There is definitely something to the rave scene beyond the drugs. It really depends on what sort of place you go as to the relative percentage of users/non-users. Some club-raves are at least 4/5 non-users, people just there for the music. Many people who used to take drugs still like the feeling they get from the music — you really don[t need to be a user to enjoy a rave.

Well now, the most common drug of choice amongst ravers would probably have to be ecstasy and as far as I know most of the people I know who take it, aren’t ravers. The same goes for the opposite, most of the ravers I know, don’t roll (take e). It’s a case of post hoc ergo propter hoc, “after this, therefore because of this”. The a big crazy rave was hosted and therefore crazy people with the desire for a spectacular time showed up . Any big event is a calling for drugs, concerts, parties, etc. A rave isn’t an excuse to take drugs. A bunch of people didn’t get together one night and say, “I want to take loads of drugs, you supply the music and the people, I’ll supply the drugs.” I mean, if you’re at a rave and you have an extra 10$, buy one, just stay hydrated.
Anyways, probably about 85% of people are there for the scene, not the drugs.
— Answer to the other question, it’s almost completely neutral. Plus, at a rave, it’d be difficult to tell who’s on drugs or not. Everyone’s doing the same thing, the drug part is just mental.
no joke, only about 10% are NOT on drugs…with all the visually stimulating lights and sounds, true druggies know this makes your body feel so good when you add E…hope you’re not thinking of doing drugs but I’d be such a hypocrite if I said I haven’t enjoyed a few “trips”
as far as users and non users, as long as nobody is being preachy or looking down on each other for their preference, they all share a common goal – to have fun
Alright.
I have been raving for 2 years now.
And NO.
Raving is most definitely not an excuse to take drugs.
For some people, they believe it is, but that is usually people 15-
Raving is about going to listen to the DJ spin amazing music.
Dancing your heart out.
Being yourself.
Raving should never be more than that.
And for people who think it is…well that’s just absolutely ridiculous.
Raving is far from an excuse to do drugs.
And every true raver, like myself, should know this.
:]
No.. like others have said it is def. not an excuse to take drugs.
Many ravers, and people who have had a change in their life from raving it is due to the loving environment of raves.
Raves are a place where people from all types of cultures, ( blacks, whites, gay, bi, etc..) can get together and forget their differences and just accept each other for who they are, and dance the night away without judgment. Many times, this is why many gays and minorities find peace and acceptance. They feel like they belong for once. Many times they create what’s known as a “rave family”. Since many times in today’s day in age real families seem to be separated by all the business of work, and other activities. Even their own real brothers and sisters are too busy with their own friends and work, they forget about where they come from, leaving those stuck at home, with no real family to connect with.
This is one reason why it seems raves have become so popular. The loneliness of today’s society is harder on some people.. and those who share a common interest and culture background connect. They find real loving people at a rave who they call their own. It really is so beautiful and special how raves can connect and bond people.
With that comes the use of mdma.. which is what raves primary drug is. Only because, this drug causes you to love others, and become close with others, beyond anything you can imagine. The feeling of love and empathy is indescribable. It is amazing, and unlike any other drug out there. So when you go to a rave and take mdma, you really come out and you really get to know someone for who they truly are. Which is why “rave families” truly seem like real families because you really know everyone for who they are, and not the usual persona you might put on, if you were at any other public get together.
If curious, this is a good explanation of a typical first time user experience:

Oh, and to your other questions.. I think ,anyone who enjoys dancing will enjoy a rave. You really don’t need any drug to have fun. It is still amazing music with awesome light shows. Plus, everyone is so friendly and loving, it makes for a great atmosphere.
Do non-users and users tend to have strong feelings about each other or is everyone fairly neutral?
Well no, unfortunately this extreme loving feeling can’t be experienced without mdma. But most of the time the whole atmosphere of those who are using, just makes all those who aren’t using become nearly just as friendly and loving.
Good luck in life.
