Question by stripedbook: what makes some people become full blown alcoholics?
I’m talking about people who shake and sweat if they don’t have their daily drinks. Why and how does this happen? can it happen to anyone at anytime? How can I avoid that. I like drinking, on the weekend, I’v been doing it for 20 years, but I just met a man tonight (in a hospital) who drank on weekends until his kids moved out of the house, and then he started drinking everynight, and then when he retired he drank every day AND night, and now he’s in the hospital suffering from alcoholism withdrawals.

Best answer:

Answer by MyMarriageRocks
I think becoming an alcoholic can be done by anybody. But I think some people have a much higher risk of becoming addicted. Not everyone who takes a drink becomes an alcoholic. Some people just have that as their weakness. Such as if there dad was one and the child saw him drinking and stumbling around then there is a good chance that he or she will become one as well. But also sometimes the person had a good upbringing and their parents never drank but the person becomes one anyways. It’s a very complex, confusing, frustarating thing. If some thing really tragic happens or someone close to them dies that can trigger the person to use alchol as a coping mechanism. Even though that doesn’t work and it makes things so much worse. My Father is an alcoholic has been for so long and his dad was an alcholic too (my g-pa) My brother and I started going down the road of drinking and then my brother realized he had to quit and he did. And was not addicted. I on the other hand became addicted to drugs (pain pills) and I was drinking pretty heavily for about 6months straight. I did quit and never had any withdrawls from the drinking. But my dad does if he tries to quit. So go figure ya know?? I do think it can happen to anyone at anytime but like I said some ppl are just more prone to it than others. Why it happens various reasons like I said…and how I suppose the body just gets so used to having that poison in its system that when the drinker quits the body just withdrawls..It is confusing I know. If you have just been drinking on the weekends for 20 years and you are not addicted then I say your chances are pretty slim. Unless something tragic or someone really close to you would pass then I hope you don’t use alcohol as a way to cope. Then you could very well end up an alcoholic. But that is doubtful. I don’t think there is anything wrong with you drinking on the weekends as long as you are responsible. Ok I hope I helped…I rambled on a lot Sorry about that…

Question by James O: If David Cameron had pictures/videos of him doing cannabis and cocaine, would he have been able to become PM?
David Cameron has ‘tacitly admitted’ to taking cannabis and cocaine in his youth, and says that everyone is allowed to ‘err and stray’ at some point in their life. I was wondering whether, in your opinion, if visual evidence of him doing these drugs was printed by a newspaper, would that have ruined his career?
I’m talking about actual visual evidence, such as a picture or a video; the issue at hand is whether this would make it worse – by virtue of it being more explicit – than a written admission. And also I do mean when he was young.

Best answer:

Answer by J B
Maybe. Obama wrote in his autobiography (assuming he actually wrote it, which is doubtful) that he used to do drugs, with a homosexual adult friend, no less…and look, he was “elected” president.

Question by <3: Increase in “sex addiction”- will we seen this become more common in teens?
In my opinion, sex addiction awareness has grown lately. I have always heard of the occasional “sex addict” and knew it was a legit addiction, however, with media influences lately like celebrities and TV shows, sex addiction has become more known by general people including teens, parents… etc.

Do you think teenagers who are sex addicts will become more known as well? Or would we say that teens who show a possible addiction to sex are still just curious?

Best answer:

Answer by most.peculiar.mama
I think more will step forward, but unfortunately that has a drawback. Many (teens and adults) will use it as a cop-out now that it is recognized as a legit disorder and ruin it for the ones who are having real problems.

Best answer:

Answer by Chef Orville
It depends on the family situation. If children see their parents drinking, they’re going to assume that it’s okay to drink. The parents must tell their children that it’s wrong. Or they could just not drink in front of the kids.

I’m a teenager and I drink occasionally, but I keep thinking once I reach the legal drinking age, I’ll turn into a drunk. Now when I mean occasionally, I mean I’ll get drunk like once ever two weeks, which is pretty good compared to most kids my age. When you were a teenager, did you ever get this feeling? How did it work out for you? Thanks for the help.
