Question by JessieBears: Are there any studies or evidence of young fame being harmful to children?
Where can I find a credible source on the psychological or behaviorial effects of children with young fame? Like the Gosselin kids, who I know are going to be screwed up adults. You hear about people like Lindsay Lohan and Taylor Momsen who are having terrible problems and suffering from addiction, but all of those are from gossip mags and blogs. Can anyone help me out?

Best answer:

Answer by Micheala3-#1 Fan of WDPLM?4
I think the most convincing evidence is simply observing the “fruit.”

Behavioral scientists, psychologists, etc.,,, even clergy make a small fortune by telling people they and their children are “screwed up”. And they offer no solutions other than psychobabble, pharmaceutical therapy, and other therapy they refer to as “counseling.” Most of these “counselors” walk the fine line themselves.

Would that adults would use common sense but that seems too much to ask.

Question by Nina R: Anyone out there had to go through Riv. Co. CPS to save children out of a meth home?
I was wondering what I need to do in order to become the legal guardian of my nieces. They haven’t been taken out of the home yet but I am preparing for the future. The family has appointed me as the person they would like to raise these kids in the event that they are rescued. Does anyone know what happens and what I can expect?

Best answer:

Answer by Star
First thing to do is to report the parents for abuse and/or neglect and/or endangering the children. In order for CPS for any county to take any action, they have to receive a report of some type of abuse, neglect, or endangerment (unless you want to wait for the police to raid the house and then CPS may get involved at that point).

Then, CPS will evaluate the situation. Usually, they will try reunification with the parents. If the kids are taken out of the home, CPS will look for someone (usually a family member) to take care of the children – if said family member is willing (they will usually look to the siblings of the parents first, so that would be you since you said those are your nieces).

Please note, however, that in that situation (with CPS), only the parents & children are entitled to a court-appointed attorney. If you want someone protecting your interests, you would need to retain the services of an attorney on your own, at your own cost.

If you don’t want to wait for that event – and the parents are willing to give you guardianship now – then talk to a lawyer (at your own cost). The parents can certainly have you appointed as the legal guardian of the children now, if they choose to do so.

We love our kids but they are alcoholics and ruining their lives. It hurts too much to keep watching it, we know we can’t do anything about it, and it is starting to destroy our lives. As much as we love them, we feel like we need to get away from them.

Question by : Should couples be required to be screened mentally before having children?
I don’t know how much sense the question makes but I am doing a research paper and the topic is going to be requiring mental screening on couples before they’re allowed to have children. This is to prevent things like abuse, molestation, and being born into poverty because of drug addiction. Does anybody agree with this? If you are what arguments would you provide to prove your point?

Best answer:

Answer by Harley Drive
mental and physical but politically impossible, we screen every other animal to improve breeding but are more than unwilling to apply it to humans, ever heard of pedigree humans?

Question by Kate G: Should young children have contact with a severely alcoholic parent?
The other parent has been out of the house since our kids were newborn, 2yo & 4yo. Visitation was semi-regular the first year because I provided transportation, etc. Once divorce was final, ex refused to follow judges orders regarding treatment (parenting class, AA meetings, supervised visitation including sobriety piss-test).
Now our children are 6, 8 & 10. They’ve only heard from ex sporadically-a total of 3 times in 5 years. Now they’re asking me to find my ex so they can have visitation.
At what age do children have the right to choose for themselves? Or is it okay that I still protect them?

It’s great to hear that a woman ends up getting their children back after she’s no longer on drugs or alcohol. The best thing children could have are their mother or father. My question is what do you have to regain custody of your children once you get your life together. I am not on drugs or alcohol, but I see so many woman who are not any addiction lose their children because of abuse (by the husband) or depression. Why is that so? And what can she do to regain custody? Everyone goes through some ups and downs in life.

Question by gypsywinter: Should children be taken away from any parent (unmarried or married), whether natural or adoptive?
if they are found to be addicted to drugs and/or alcohol? I noticed on another question that many thought that addiction should be grounds for immediate removal from the natural mother. What about natural parents that are married, single or divorced or adoptive parents who are married, single or divorced who are abusing drugs and/or alcohol…shouldn’t their children (any age) also be immediately removed from the parents as well? Is there a difference in regards as to who is addicted and who gets to keep their kids or not? If so, why or why not? Personally I think alcoholics are just as damaging to their children as any drug addict…it’s still substance abuse. Should all alcoholics/heavy drinkers lose their children as well to fostercare, should the occasional pot-smoker lose his/her parental rights as well? Should only absolute non-drinkers (of the alcohol variety to include beer), no drug use of any kind people, be allowed to parent? Who determines who is engaging in total drug addiction vs occasional use or the died-in-the wool alcoholic vs the social drinker? Is there a double standard for substance abuse for women vs men, i.e. the married husband is the alcoholic/addict, should his children be removed from his household? At what point do people believe that alcoholism/drug abuse is damaging to the children who live in these households…do we hold different levels of acceptability based on marital status, economic status, home owner or renter?
ETA: The Brain said: “”Love how you throw the poverty issue in — trying to imply that “poverty is a reason children are in foster care.”"
UH! Excuse me where did I write the above in my question? If you are going to quote me, please, at least quote me correctly and not *falsely*. Thank you!
Guess my question has been diverted to “poverty”..OK!

http://www.faqs.org/childhood/Fa-Gr/Foster-Care.html

“”Others maintain that the inadequacy of the child welfare system stems from its inability to address the primary issue contributing to child neglect, abuse, and removal: poverty. Indeed, the overwhelming majority of children in foster care are born into poverty and some studies show that the primary predictor of child removal is not the severity of abuse but the level of the family’s income. Critics noted that in the early twenty-first century the United States had the highest rate of child poverty of any industrialized Western nation and argued the income and social supports more typical of Western European nations, such as family allowances, government-supported day care, family leave policies, more generous benefits for single mothers and their children, would reduce the number of American children in foster care.”"
ETA: Guess I didn’t get my point across in my question. I heard women screaming for the immediate removal of newborns from addicted mothers…no 2nd chance…yet now I hear it a little differently. Chances? for whom..the married couple, the single mom..who rates more chances? I also attended AL-Anon and ACA for a number of years, my life as a child was an absolute nightmare..no matter, looking back I still wouldn’t have wanted to be taken from my own mother…never! Best thing in our family…her husband dropped dead suddenly on the kitchen floor when some of my sibs (their bio dad that had a fed gov’t job) were quite young, they were spared the worst of the worst, for that I was most thankful!
Answer by Aurora
I think too many kids are taken away from their parents too fast. If the kids are being hurt or neglected, someone should be there to help. If the kids aren’t being hurt or neglected, the parents should be helped with the kids there. Children, in my opinion, should only ever be taken away as a last resort, and only when in significant danger – but I know first hand that is not the case with the social workers (I am not at all addicted to drugs or alcohol – don’t even touch them – and never abused my kids, but still lost them because my Christian values – modesty, avoiding violence and inappropriate scenes and such in movies, and not wanting my kids told their wasn’t a God – were too high according to the social workers. They were 4, 6, and 10.)

What do you think? Answer below!

Unofficial Video of Underwear Goes Inside the Pants by Lazy Boy Lyrics :- Why is marijuana not legal? Why is marijuana not legal? It’s a natural plant that grows in the dirt. Do you know what’s not natural? 80 year old dudes with hard-ons. That’s not natural. But we got pills for that. We’re dedicating all our medical resources to keeping the old guys erect, but we’re putting people in jail for something that grows in the dirt? You know we have more prescription drugs now. Every commercial that comes on TV is a prescription drug ad. I can’t watch TV for four minutes without thinking I have five serious diseases. Like: “Do you ever wake up tired in the morning?” Oh my god I have this, write this down. Whatever it is, I have it. Half the time I don’t even know what the commercial is: people running in fields or flying kites or swimming in the ocean. I’m like that is the greatest disease ever. How do you get that? That disease comes with a hot chick and a puppy. The schools now: It is all about self-esteem in the schools now. Build the kids’ self-esteem, make them feel good about themselves. If everybody grows up with high self-esteem, who is going to dance in our strip clubs? What’s going to happen to our porno industry? These women don’t just grown on trees. It takes lots of drunk dads missing dance recitals before you decide to blow a goat on the internet for fifty bucks. And if that disappears, where does that leave me on a Friday night with my new high speed connection …

DISCLAIMER: We do not own this video. All rights and all content go to ABC. Diane Sawyer and 20/20 take a deeper look into the poverty and addiction stricken side to Kentucky. It’s a side of America that many choose to overlook and ignore. “In the hills of Central Appalachia, up winding, mountain roads, is a place where children and families face unthinkable conditions, living without what most Americans take for granted. Isolated pockets in Central Appalachia have three times the national poverty rate, an epidemic of prescription drug abuse, the shortest life span in the nation, toothlessness, cancer and chronic depression. But also in Appalachia young fighters and dreamers filled with hope struggle to survive: a high school football superstar who sleeps in his truck; a 12-year-old who wants nothing more than her own bed and a cupboard full of food; an 18-year-old who must decide whether or not to spend the rest of his life in the coal mines; and an 11-year-old determined to save her mother’s life. Diane Sawyer continues her award-winning reporting on America’s forgotten children with an eye-opening hour on rural kids living in poverty. -Shawn Grim, 18, Appalachian high school football superstar, sleeps in his truck to avoid the thievery, alcoholism and despair of his family’s life in the hollow in Flat Gap, Kentucky. Over the course of Sawyer’s report, Grim moves eight times. He is determined to be the first one in his family to graduate from high school and go to …
