I can’t tell you to abort or not abort. But, a lot of women drink and smoke at the beginning of their pregnancies and don’t know that they are actually pregnant. Your baby will be fine, just go to the doctor and be up front with them if they ask you if you have drank or smoked since being pregnant.

Edit: oh, and don’t plan on drinking from this point forward.

I was at the local high school today and noticed a large number of high schoolers engaging in this. What’s the deal? I know that when I was a teen, we’d use pacifiers while using the drug ecstasy, because it dried out your mouth. BUT that was at raves and the like. What’s this all about?

It will increase alcohol’s availability to a younger segment of the population and make it tempting to even younger ones which are both bad things. Younger people are often immature as well as not physically, intellectually or mentally ready for circumstances associated with alcoholic consumption. How would they even pay for it if they are not even old enough for part-time employment?

ps: Trouble with Oiko’s reasoning is – What if someone drinks so much alcohol before age 25 and kills so many brain cells they lack the common sense to drive responsibly.

Question by Rina: Do teens with genetic alcoholism not know their limits when they’re drinking, or will they do w/e for alcohol?
When given alcohol, will a teen with an alcoholic disposition not know when to stop drinking. Or are we looking at the real definition of a teen alcoholic being someone who goes out of their way to get ahold of alcohol on nearly a daily basis, ignoring the fact that it’s illegal.

His ex wife was treated for alcoholism and he doesn’t want alcohol around his kids-I understand that-but he doesn’t like to go out-when I go out I like to have a couple of drinks…is that wrong? Should I not drink because of those reasons?

My husband was an alcoholic for 12 years before he finally quit drinking 3 months ago. His doctor is young and does not have any experience with alcoholism. He has not ordered any tests to check what damage alcohol might have done to his health. What are the common things he should get checked for? Liver function obviously comes to mind, but I’m looking for a very thorough answer as to what alcoholics usually get tested for when they stop drinking.

Several months after quitting, a family physician might re-check the liver panel to see if the numbers are coming down (assuming they were elevated due to alcohol use before). There are no hard and fast testing guidelines after someone has stopped drinking – it is up to the individual doctor. Some people only have this done once a year at their annual physical after stopping. This decision is up to the family physician, whether young or not.

Alcohol is forbidden in our religion. We teach our kids that alcohol is bad for you and teach them the truth about the bad effects of Alcohol.
