Question by : how to help alcoholic xhusband leave abusive relationship.?
I want to try and help my x escape a physically and verbally abusive relationship. We have 3 teen children and he has a 4 yr old with this woman. We split because my x had an affair with her at work. Over the last 5 years he has become an alcoholic. He has lived on and off with this woman, often ending up staying with me or his parents when she has literally kicked him out of her house. She hates me,she hates our children and kept stopping him having contact because x has said she feels threatened by the fact she knows he’ll always love me. He has never reported the beatings or threats as he feels ashamed and she has made him feel guilty and worthless.I got him onto a detox programme, he did go through it earlier this year but he was back living with her and ended up drinking again. He ended up staying with me again, all was going well and I got him started on another detox, we had a falling out which resulted in him falling out with his parents and going back to her again. That was the end of October, I’ve only had 1 short phone call from him and 1 very short voice mail. He can only really make calls when she is not around because if she finds he has spoken to me she will attack him. He told me she has hit him and keeps him in what he calls ‘lock down’. He blamed me for us falling out and said he was staying put there. It is very difficult for him to think rationally with the drinking. I am worried as I have rang and text him many times asking him to ring me and only had the voice1 mail in reply, he won’t even reply to our sons calls which is not like him.He told me she had hidden his phone and lied about it and I believe she would take it and monitor his calls/messages .I don’t know what to do to help him. Please if someone can help

Answer by tagboy
I have a drunk for a brother and ended up raising his two boys. Tried for decades to help if they don’t want to help themselves not much you can do. The psycho he was married to would always throw him out and he would always go crawling back for more punishment. 25 years of this and she died last year now it’s God I miss her, Honey their isn’t anything you can do he needs professional help He’s punishing himself. Only way he will come around is when he stops beating himself up. she finds he has spoken to me she will attack him. He’s pretty pathetic don’t you think. Don’t make this spineless drunk the victim.

Question by mollydolly: Help managing alcoholism?
I am trying to break my addiction to alcohol on my own and fear, from past experience, that I will fail. I can’t go to rehab because I am raising three kids. Yes, I do know how awful that is. That’s why I’m trying to get help. Are there any supplements that help with cravings and/or withdrawal? I can’t go to AA because my husband says I’m just going so I can meet people and cheat on him. He believes in the whole “get over it” ideal when it comes to things like addiction and depression. I feel weak and stupid that I can’t. I have continued drinking because it’s easier than dealing with everything associated with “recovery” and I hate how irratable and sad I become without alcohol. It’s kind of become a friend to me, dumb as that sounds. I need to be well for my kids. my pre teen recently commented on my drinking and it broke my heart. What can I do?

I will try to get her parents to help but her mom is very emotionaly neglectful always threatening her daughter with kicking her out of the house and her dad is a good father but a bit of a pushover towards his wife. I also am thinking of taking her to her HS counselour about her problems but I’m worried of what the conseqences could be she 17 so there she can still be sent to away to a foster home and become a ward of the state. She has asked me to help her so I’m not doing this against her will. Please please I truly need help and advise.

Question by Michael: How do I help my brother who is mentally ill over a divorce and has tried committing suicide?
My brother is severely depressed after his divorce. It is very sad because he is 35 years old and has a 16 year old girl and a 11 year old boy. He has turned to drugs and been in and out of rehab 3 times, and attempted suicide twice. Due to his actions, his ex has filed a no contact order which he has broken and is now back in rehab to avoid going to jail. The problem is that I am certain he will try to kill himself again and be successful this time. What is wrong with the system?? He has insurance and each time after attempting suicide, the Psychiatric hospital discharges him after a few days…. Will someone help me before it is too late for him?

This situation is not unique.

Try calling anonymously to some emergency rooms and some OBGYN offices and ask a few questions.
You might also call a couple of homes for unwed mothers and ask that question…
it’s possible they know from first hand experience.

Question by Lance: Do Rave Parties Always Involve Drugs? (Help Me Prove Her Wrong. lol)?
Okay, me and my friends, are all into Rave. Those of my friends who are old enough to go to them say they are all night techno parties. I looked it up for days, it’s pretty legit. I know for a FACT that it’s an often all night techno/trance party at a club or abandoned warehouse, or the like. However, my friend, says that they are “parties in which people bring all their drugs, and their medications, and swap them amongst themselves”. I understand this to be a near perfect definition of a “pharm party”… Am I right, or is she right?

Me: All night techno party.
Her: Great big drug swap.

…I am pretty sure I’m right…

Answer by LeahL85
There are plenty of private schools, but unfortunately there are no places you can just stick your kids for free. Boot camps for troubled teens are usually for juvenile delinquents that were sent there by the justice department after being arrested. Maybe she could talk to a social worker.

its not easy to go over the internet with this but forget a bunch of pride. i need to be real. im 32. 3 kids. been to prison 4 times. and been on dope, (speed) since i was 18. i been through every dang program and rehab you can think of. drug court, residential treatment, NA classes. im even currently enrolled in a prop 36 class., which i happen to be currently screwing up. so here i am throwing it out there, hoping this isnt gonna do me more harm than good. thats where faith comes in. anyways ive heard of hypnosis helping people overcome cigarettes and their fears of different things etc… just an idea. a thought what do you think. any ideas before……. this aint no joke anymore. fun ran out long time ago.

Answer by brevejunkie
Where do you live? Is it possible you could get away for a week (or maybe more, depending on how much you use?) to Miami, Florida? There’s a place my sister went called Summer House that did her a world of good. It’s an inpatient facility and they wean you off your drugs gradually (as opposed to going cold turkey and being dopesick). She loved the place so much she didn’t want to leave, lol. If you have insurance, most insurances will pay for it. You really should go to the website and check it out. If this isn’t an option for you, then I don’t know what to tell you. You have to really TRULY want to do this. I would think your children would be incentive enough for you to want to quit. What kind of dad can you be when you’re raising them over the phone from prison, you know? Sorry–not trying to be mean–just honest.

Regardless of what you decide, good luck to you and your family. Remember–they’re only little once.
