Question by Nina R: Anyone out there had to go through Riv. Co. CPS to save children out of a meth home?
I was wondering what I need to do in order to become the legal guardian of my nieces. They haven’t been taken out of the home yet but I am preparing for the future. The family has appointed me as the person they would like to raise these kids in the event that they are rescued. Does anyone know what happens and what I can expect?

Best answer:

Answer by Star
First thing to do is to report the parents for abuse and/or neglect and/or endangering the children. In order for CPS for any county to take any action, they have to receive a report of some type of abuse, neglect, or endangerment (unless you want to wait for the police to raid the house and then CPS may get involved at that point).

Then, CPS will evaluate the situation. Usually, they will try reunification with the parents. If the kids are taken out of the home, CPS will look for someone (usually a family member) to take care of the children – if said family member is willing (they will usually look to the siblings of the parents first, so that would be you since you said those are your nieces).

Please note, however, that in that situation (with CPS), only the parents & children are entitled to a court-appointed attorney. If you want someone protecting your interests, you would need to retain the services of an attorney on your own, at your own cost.

If you don’t want to wait for that event – and the parents are willing to give you guardianship now – then talk to a lawyer (at your own cost). The parents can certainly have you appointed as the legal guardian of the children now, if they choose to do so.

You might also call a couple of homes for unwed mothers and ask that question…
it’s possible they know from first hand experience.

Question by roughruggedraw: Why is there this prevalent preception that divorce doesn’t hurt men?
Many men marry with good intentions of it being a lifelong committment. Actually from reading a lot of the women’s answers on this forum, I’ve learned that many of you view marriage in a horrible light. However I have to contend with something that’s always brought up that women and children suffer greatly while men actually benefit from divorce. This is simply not true and some of you have stated that men benefit most from marriage. So, if men benefit most from marriage, then how can we hurt least from divorces? Many of you have stated that women’s happiness actually increases after divorce or that single women are happier than those married. So, if women and children get the worst of divorces, how come women’s happiness goes up?

Also, many studies have indicated that men actually have a harder time recovering from divorce because they don’t have the social network of women. Men after breakups are more likely to engage in self destructive behavior i.e. binge drinking.

Best answer:

Answer by tracymoo2002
Men are treated so badly in the media (all forms) and women are told that divorce will make them happier! ACK! No one gender is responsible, and the “reasons” for divorce are as diverse as the people involved. As for the aftermath – studies have proven time and again that a single mom with small children is far worse off (at least financially) than her married sister. And men definitely get little or no support, and are expected to just get right back up and back to work. What a world!

Question by dani: Is Al-Anon the only option or are there alternative groups / philosophies for dealing with an alcoholic?
My husband is an alcoholic and I need help coping and deciding on my next move. He goes to AA meetings but I’ve always resented that AA insists that alcoholism is a disease that an alcoholic has no control over. I think that’s not only unfair but nonsensical when compared to people with REAL TERMINAL diseases. An alcoholic can choose not to drink, I’ve seen my husband do it. A child cancer patient doesn’t have that option. So the fact that Al-Anon members practice the 12 steps on themselves kind of rubs me the wrong way. Yes, I am FULL of flaws and stand before you by the grace of God (both 12 step ideas), but my husband is STILL AT FAULT for drinking. I like the idea of detachment that Al-Anon uses, but someone still has to pay, and I’m sick of it being me and my kids. I’m happy to try Al-Anon, but I’m just curious if there’s anything else out there.

Best answer:

Answer by huggz
There are smaller localized groups but they are not as well known or as well publicized as AA. I partly share your feelings, I feel there is a personal responsibility for actions. I make a personal choice not to drink, or I make a choice to drink! The alcohol does affect an alcoholic in a different way to the average person, but that does not mean that the person cannot decide to leave alcohol alone. I know that taking crack cocaine would be bad for me, therefore I don’t do it! Simple…but not so simple too!

Question by spankette: If you have a friend that is an alcoholic and her kids suffer how do I tell her there is a problem…?
I have been her friend for about 10 yrs, her kids are 3 and 2 yrs old..she constantly is worried about the next time she is going to drink and with who…and who she is going to bring home…every other weekend the kids dad takes them, so that is her time, but when it is her weekend, why should the kids be stuck with a sitter? And when she is home through the week she drinks all by herself and that is why it is becoming a problem, because the kids seem to be suffering and doing without because she is either hung over and bitchy or she doesn’t have any patience with them (she has never hit the kids though) but sometimes yelling is way worse than hitting them, so how do I tell her it is out of control without loosing a friend???

Question by Jane: Havent seen my kids 7 years now ive been told the mother is an alcoholic, is there anything i can do?
7 years ago i split with my girlfriend, she then up and moved to ireland one day and there was no way i could track them down. Then out of the blue last night i had a phone call from her ex husband in ireland saying he is worried about my kids as the mother has turned into an alcoholic and that the kids r suffering and not going to school. I love my kids and have always wanted them in my life. I am now settled down with a wife and 2 kids so do u think there is a chance i could now get them back?? The kids r both under 10. Thanks for ur help in advance if u answer.

Question by Ross: Is there a such thing as “binge pornography addiction”?
I’m 30 years old and I have been in a monogamous relationship for two years. Prior to that, I was in another monogamous relationship for five years.

That’s why I’m so confused about this whole pornography thing.

As a teenager, I was obsessed with porn. I used to look at pictures, watch videos, read stories and chat online as often as I could. I would stay up late at night secretly doing all those things. I always felt really guilty and scared my parents were going to find out.

In college, I wasn’t sexually active until sophomore year and while I looked online at pornography some, it wasn’t like before. By the second year of college, I barely looked at porn at all.

For the next few years, it was like that. I would go for a month obsessed with online pornography, then several months would go by and I wouldn’t even think about porn.

From 2005 – 2010, I can honestly say that I barely looked at porn. I mean there were a few times I might read a story, but it wasn’t all obsessive like when I was a teen.

Then, last night, while googling for something non-sex related, a porn site came up in the search box. It’s like I was suddenly an obsessed teenager again. I started looking around 11 p.m. and before I knew it, it was 6:15 a.m and I had been looking at pictures, videos and reading stories!!! I even considered going into some of my old chatrooms!

Mainly I like very light b & d, ravishment fantasies(damsels in distress) and costume play.

Anyhow, stayed up so late last night made me feel exhusted all day and when I got home in the afternoon, I was preparing to take a nap when I decided to just look again for 10 minutes. 10 minutes turned into FOUR HOURS. I had to force myself to turn off the computer.

What is wrong with me? Am I a porn addict? Why do I go on “binges?”

I think I am sexually satisfied. I was intimate with my girlfriend Friday night and it felt really good. We were also intimate Saturday morning.

I don’t have a compulsive urge to masterbate or to have multiple sexual partners or be a voyuer* or anything illegal. In fact, my libido is relatively low…I normally am only in the mood like 1 – 2 times a week (though I usually have sex more often because my girlfriend has a high libido. she is in the mood every day or every other day)

Best answer:

Answer by Sivasubramanyam Yuddandi
You have openly admitted, which none admits. It is the same case with average men. Initial fear of coitus being killed and experience with multiple woman will increase the thrust and augment the drive. If under alcohol influence is experienced, it will give boost to further gear up. It will take its own course to droop down. It is not abnormal.

Well today at school i asked this kid if ihad any hooks. So he said yea he can get me some green goblin and he said its like pure shit and 20 dollars a pop. I’m just wondering before i get scammed, is there ecstasy named green goblin?

Answer by Jack W
I’m sorry to ask this, but did you intentionally put this in the Comics and Animation segment? I think this may belong somewhere else.

And let me say this, don’t take any hook drugs. I know I sound like a parent right now, but drugs are bad! They screw up peoples’ lives! Trust me on that one.
