Question by Apple: The internet is harmful to children?
Hello, I will be having a debate tomorrow on the harm internet can bring to children. Yes, I am aware of the educational purposes but sadly I’m on the proposition side of the motion “The internet is bad for teens”.
How do I start and end? Any suggestions?
In what ways other than these is the internet harmful for children?
-Addiction
-Pornorgraphy
-Distraction
-Online chat rooms

i’m thriteen and im aggreeing on all of those but porn, ima girl, and i would never look at that crap of any kind. but surely others would so i guess i can aggree with that too. u could also point out that it hurts eyesite, i have glasses, likely a cause of getting my laptop recently. and you could point out that it teaches them things they dont need to know. the internet is wierd, i can handle it now, but when i was little it was so bad i didnt want to touch the computer bc i didnt know what i would see. the ads can even be disturbing!

The internet isn’t harmful to children, only to paranoid parents.

Mostly to do with the computer, but it’s not as easy accessing the internet on phones and such.
Bad on the eyes. The reason for this is is because people tend to stop blinking as often as they normally do, so their eyes dry up a bit.
May caused hunched backs because the computer is too low.
Radiation
All around unhealthy. Like you already mentioned, addiction –> long periods without getting up and moving around; no exercise –> weight gain which may or may not eventually lead to obesity; butt and leg problems.
You should also add the inability to socialise in person, or deal with ‘real life’ encounters, brave behind the keyboard but not learning to interact in a meaningful non abbreviated way with fellow human beings.
Of course that really cant be said for all teens who use the internet but you could add it to your list of reasons.
OH- that kids have no patience anymore- everything is ‘instant’, there is no researching or waiting…. they just go to yahoo answers or sites like wikipedia for instant info…;p
What’s so bad about porn? The others I can understand, but I’d rather a teen watch porn to get off then go and reproduce.

the internet is bad because it is addictive as studies show it is as addictive as cocaine or other drugs.
Pornography is another big problem since most sites if you Google with safe search off contain pornographic images.
It is also a distraction since teens will prefer the internet instead of finishing off coursework for school.
Online chat rooms such as runescape and habbo are also bad there are nasty people on online chat rooms since people will want to act nice to you in the chat room then meet up with you in real life and then show their true colors as what they are in the real world.
what kind of a monster are you trying to deprive hormone stricken teen boys from porn would you rather them have sex or something or read playboy wtf take porn off that list but the rest i kind of agree with
It wouldn’t be so harmful if parents would learn to shut the computer off. Parents have no control of their kids today.
No, your argument is based on STUPID children who would do those things, forgetting the children who wouldn’t do anything like them.
Can’t help you, sorry – the Internet is no more inherently harmful to kids than watching TV, or listening to that rowdy rock and roll music.
