Requiem for a Dream
Sevens is pretty good. It’s a series about seven teens who used to be friends when they were small but they dont talk anymore because of some mysterious event. It keeps you guessing and lets you put the pieces together slowly.
and The Lovely Bones is a must-read, especailly before the movie comes out! =)
nicholas sparks is the best romance author ever…
Dear John (best)
The Notebook
The Lucky One
The Choice
A Message in a Bottle
Have you read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time ?
A very good book, and perhaps a good change of theme after reading Twilight.
Alice Kuipers book Life on the Refrigerator Door is a poignant and deeply moving first novel about the bonds of love and frustration that tie mothers and daughters together, you may also enjoy that.
You might also find the site http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/3551.YA_Book_Club a good place to get ideas.
Good luck!

Two races of vampires walk our world. One, the Moroi, are alive and wield elemental magical. The other, the Strigoi, are undead and evil–feeding on the innocent to survive. Rose Hathaway–a half-vampire with poor impulse control–is training to be a bodyguard for a Moroi princess. Learning to decapitate and stake is hard enough, but Rose’s real danger may lie in an illicit romance with one of her instructor…

Maximum Ride Series By Jame Patterson (Truly great fast pasted keeps you in the story books)
The series follows six human/avian fugitives. Bred in a science lab called “The School”, the Flock endured scientific experiments that rendered them 98% human and 2% avian. The Angel Experiment picks up the story as the Flock reengages with their struggle against scientists and evil hybrids after having been freed from the School by Jeb Batchelder years before.
The Bloody Jack Series, by L.A. Meyer. Bloody Jack is really a girl. Orphaned in London at the end of the 1700′s, she lives with a street gang, then disguises herself as a boy and is hired onto a British Naval ship.

There is a GREAT double biography called Parallel Journeys, by Eleanor Ayers with Richard Heck and Helen Waterford.
Helen Waterford survived Aushschwitz and emigrated to the US. Heck was raised as a good German, joined the Hitler Youth, and later became the youngest pilot in the Luft Waff (air force.) He also emigrated to Canada and then the US after the war.
In 70′s, these two people crossed paths, and began telling about their parallel journeys. The book is amazing.
