Take the children OUT of the alcoholic home. Alcoholism is hard for kids to take…it messes up their lives.
ARE TALKING ABOUT A ABUSIVE FALLING DOWN YELLING ARGUMENTIVE HOME. Good question. Instead of the example setting a lesson to avoid this. Statixtics show like other forms of abuse; they will often grow up to imulate it… Otherwise put drinks in colored glasses try not to make drinking sound good, Try not to get snocked till after bed time.
Honestly, best bet is to get them into AlaTeen. It helps to be able to talk about things with other teens. I was in it myself for years while my stepdad was recovering. Check it out

Talk to them about it in an honest, unemotional way. Be direct and straightforward.
If you can’t take on the role of “social worker” or “therapist” then help them to find someone who will fulfill this role. These are children who need a functional leader; an adult resource to help them create a safe and productive life regardless of the dysfunctional people around them. This is what a parent should do.
Their resiliency will grow as they mature and gain some victories and learn, from someone functional, how to deal with the difficulties in life by utilizing positive coping skills and resources; this is key.
