Question by kat: When to consider yourself a alcoholic?
My question is plain and simple. Is it possible for a very young teen to be considered a ‘alcoholic’? The other day while talking to a younger teen she had said she was an alcoholic, she didn’t ‘confide’ in me. she almost brags about it posting it all over her myspace and saying it to everyone. I’m just wondering if this is all a act and for attention or if it’s possible for someone young to be a alcoholic? I would consider someone being that when they drink more then twice a day and have been drinking continuously for years, or am i wrong?

If she brags about it, she isn’t one. She is just trying to get attention for her drinking for some stupid reason.
You are an alcoholic when you drink every single day and you can’t stop without help.

She’s just looking for attention. If she’s really an alcoholic, march her down to the cop shop and have her tell them– I’m sure they have a remedy for her.
She’s a child who wants people to think she’s a party girl.
Yes, it’s possible for someone that young to be alcoholic. You really can’t judge if someone is alcoholic solely by the amount they drink.
I think I would take her at face value. I can tell you that I am now 67 years old. As a child of 12, never mind being a teen, I had access to alcohol. My friend’s father was a Air Force officer and we would go to his home from school and he and I would hit that liquor cabinet, whiskey, gin, vodka. I was nearly the first kid on my block arrested for DUI on a bicyle. So if it could be that way in 1955, what do you think it could be like now? (We’d knock down a few belts and then head to our Boy Scout meeting!) So yes this young lady can have a source of booze, just like I did. Now you need to tell her parents, something is wrong here. By the way, I never became an alcoholic, but I sure messed around with alcohol, there is a difference and perhaps this girl does not know that, however she still should not be drinking.
