Question by Scout: Why is this happening to our children?
DO YOU THINK SETTING A GOOD EXAMPLE WOULD HELP???
The terrifying scale of binge drinking among teenagers was laid bare last night as official figures revealed more than 160 children a
week end up in hospital for drink problems.
The number of under 18s being admitted to hospital through alcohol was 8,494 in 2007 – no fewer than 23 a day.
It is a rise of more than 50 per cent since the year before Labour took office a decade ago.

NOW theres no point of hiding them the presence of alcohol.
Yes,a good example is a great choice.
Its widely possible
THRU media and the internet.
THOOSE ARE THE THINGS THE YOUTH ARE INTERESTED IN MOST OF THE TIME.
i see it every day, drunk teenagers falling about all over the place and the sad fact is..most, not all just seem to be following in the footsteps of their parents who couldn’t care less what their kids are doing, i actually dread what my kids are growing up into..it does seem to be getting worse..not better…maybe more punishment for both kids and parents would maybe cut it down a bit

Kinda the same thing here. . .
Check out my answer!
Actually, here it is:
No matter how high you raise the age, people underage will still drink.
Theres something about British people, I don’t know why but the attitude to alcohol here is so different to Italy.
In Italy, it’s ok for teenagers to drink alcohol. And because they’ve been drinking it since they were kids – Adults will let their kids try a glass of wine or beer or whatever – when they reach the legal age, they don’t feel the need to go out and get drunk.
Whereas here, kids are probably threatened with a beating if they touch alcohol, so when they hit the legal age WOOO lets get sshmashedd, even though they’ve probably been doing it for years anyway.
Because Thats the best way to help your liver.
Sorry, sarcasm.
But if it was more like the rest of Europe, we would not have a problem.
parents need to counsel there off springs before they get to start drinking. If the parents can set examples it may help
Alcohol use among young people will not abate because Alcohol is the most readily available “drug”.
Rebellion against authority is seen by the kids as a positive state – we admire “naughty” people, we encourage “freedom of expression” and we don’t encourage people to take responsibility for their actions.
So binge drinking is a fashion statement – a sign that you are accepted, you are cool.
And until we start a form of counter propaganda that’s the way it is going to stay.
We have to bring back the message that drunkenness is a lack of self control, something to be disgusted at.
And funnily enough, it’s only when you’ve lived with an alcoholic that you really see how disgusting it is.
I really don’t think that drunken teenagers really care who is in charge, they will do it anyway.
Anyway, what are you going to do to stop them? Tie them down and force them not to? That won’t do much except encourage them.
The problem is, most have a habit of following the leader. Strong teenagers who go against the crowd are usually trampled doing it.
A good example may help, but I doubt it. Fact is, you won’t stop them. Teenagers are at a time when they are becoming their own person. You have to trust them and guide them if they fall a little off track. For most of them, it is only a phase anyway.
