Yes. Drinking is not right. If a drunk person drives someone can get killed or injured. That drunk driver can go to jail.
where i live it is 21 and teens are still binge drinking. when are ppl going to realise that you dont solve problems by creating new crimes. how many ppl could be rehabilitated from drugs? prob half the prison population but instead we would rather lock people up and RUIN their lives rather then help them. mabye the parents should step in.
i thought legal age was 21
i think it should be brought up to 25, except it won’t stop underage drinking
the legal age is 21 in Louisiana and i think it’s appropriate. other states should follow suit.
Interesting theory. Consider this: In many European countries, children (around ages 13-16) are served wines and beers with certain meals. The rate of alcohol poisoning in those countries is exponentially less than the United States.
Raising an already arbitrary number isn’t going to help. Education is going to help. Instead of using DARE and other such programs that simply tell children “DON’T DO THIS OR YOU’LL DIE!!!!” why not instead educate them as to the finer points of alcohol? Obviously things like Popov Vodka and other such bargain basement liquors are solely for binge drinking, but why not educate children as to the finer culinary impacts of fine wines and crafted beers?
I’ll bet you that with a well-rounded alcohol education, the taboo associated with booze would shatter and teen drinking would become much less of a problem than it is now.
The legal age for drinking is 21 in the entire US.
While some people drink responsibly earlier, way too many still can’t do it at 21. I’d like to see it raised even higher, maybe to 24 or 25.
Yeah, I know that won’t be a popular answer. But consider that it’s difficult to go to a public event where alcohol is served, whether it’s a wedding or a football game, without some young guy (and it’s nearly always a guy) making the event unpleasant for everyone in a 100-foot radius because he’s so drunk that he’s loud, stands up inappropriately, paws women, fights other guys, and in general proves he isn’t ready to handle alcohol.
no i do not believe that the age should be 21 it should be 25 because once someone above 21 starts drinking the responsibility is theirs they can pretty much control it
Teens will just do it to rebel against the law. If they are going to do it anyways then make it legal.
As some of the other comments said, changing the legal age wont solve anything. People are going to abuse alcohol regardless, if anything it should be brought down to 18. You can serve and die for your country at 18, legally have kids and get married in most states when you’re 18, and you’re officially an adult in most states when you’re 18, so why not be able to drink alcohol? When it comes down to it, it’s all about educating your kids and not branding alcohol as taboo. As one comment said, look at certain european countries, they don’t have anywhere near the type of problems we have with teens and alcohol is readily available to them.
Look at how many adult males binge drink and end up beating the crap out of their wives or kids…and look at how many people over the age of 21 who drive home from clubs drunk and end up killing people in car accidents..what’s legal age going to do for that? It’s not just teens who abuse alcohol.
